The story of Steve Schwarzman is one of success and hard work. A year ago Steve was named as the 53rd most wealthy person in America penned by Forbes Magazine, but it’s his incredible rise to power in the business world and his contributions to education and the arts which set his man apart. His biography shows us that the most critical qualities in achieving success in life are working hard and, of course, indefatigable commitment. In the eighties Stephen set up the Blackstone Group with Peter Peterson; initially it was a private equity and financial advice business. Nowadays the Blackstone Group is an industry giant engaging in holdings as different as, for example, Apria Healthcare and The Weather Channel, to name only two of them. Living for most of his formative years in near Philadelphia, PA, Steve got his early education in suburban Philadelphia. After graduating from high school he went on to study at the highly respected Yale University and obtained his degree in 1969. He set about taking a program of post graduate study at the well-known Harvard Business school near Boston, MA. Then he started his career with Lehman Brothers investment bank, located in NYC. By the very early age of 31, he had been appointed one of their managing directors.
Steve Schwarzman volunteered his time as an ancillary professor at the influential Yale School of Business Management in addition to donating to a number of charities, education, and the arts. He serves as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the JFK Center for the Performing Arts in Manhattan. Additionally, Steve only last spring gave the New York Public Library $100,000,000 to support their building plans. He is also one of the trustees of the library.
Steve is a role model for a new generation of business people — he was cited as one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World in recognition of his many achievements. His mastery of the financial industry has been miraculous, and his willingness to donate to his community through his generous gifts to the liberal arts and education projects encourages people who are inspired by him. With his industry knowledge, experience, and commitment, it would seem like there’s nothing he can’t achieve. To sum it up, Steve has grasped every opportunity given to him, however, in return he has at the same time used his fortune to give his best to ameliorate his community.
