Green Car of the Year Coming Soon November 3, 2010
The contingent of prospects for the 2011 Green Car of the Year accolade, to be handed out at the L.A. Auto Show, are five in total. The Chevrolet Volt (surprisingly to us), Ford Fiesta, Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, Lincoln MKZ Hybrid, and the Nissan Leaf comprise the group of candidates.
The honor selection procedure this year is particularly exciting because of the varied power sources for the prospects. The Chevy Volt and the Leaf from Nissan are the original battery powered autos to make the finals. The EVs are competing with the Ford Fiesta, the solitary gasoline-only powered vehicle, and 2 gas-electric hybrids, the Sonata Hybrid from Hyundai and the MKZ Hybrid from Lincoln. Past winners have been left out this year and include a diesel and a fuel cell power-driven car.
The Los Angeles Auto Show is one of the premier automotive conventions of the year, only second to the automotive show in Detroit, Michigan.
For the Green Car of the Year Award, the automobiles will be evaluated by a jury that ranges from Jay Leno to the President of the Natural Resources Defense Council. With a celebrity bent to the panel, we’re unsure as to how much weight the award will carry, but the thought is that it will be tkaen seriously by the public and could help boost sales of the winning vehicle.

The Green Car of the Year will be chosen on November 18, 2011. We wish all of the entrants good luck and hopefully the most envirnmentally friendly auto will win!
