Fantasy Football – England Have Become World Cup Winners July 28, 2010
Football Superstars held a virtual World Cup of their massive multi-player online game not long ago, and although the England team failed to beat Germany in the 2010 South Africa World Cup, they manged to go all the way in the virtual world.
England are the World Cup winners for the virtual Football Superstars massive event; this is an MMO (massively multi-player online game) that reenvisions the World Cup, but as a game. Unlike the real England team that lost to Germany in South Africa, the virtual England team went all the way. The virtual England team faced classic rivals the Germans in the group stages, holding up much better in the virtual world they managed to hold on to a 1-1 draw. The German team then went on to lose 2-1 to the Ukraine, beating them surprisingly out of the fantasy football world cup in the group stages, something that would be hard to believe in the real world. England had an effortless fight through to the Semi Finals, as they totally annihilated Lithuania 9-1 in the Quarters, completely outclassing the team. The Semi Finals saw them face off against Portugal, a team they carry a past with. The game began with England going on the offense immediately, creating a number of chances throughout the game – in the end the midfield battle was won by the England team and they managed to finish the game with a nice 4-2 win. They then advanced to play the Russian team in the World Cup Final, a dangerous team that really wanted to win this tournament. Sadly for the Russians, however, the game got off to a terrible beginning for them as England scored within the first minute. All was not well for the England team, though, and Russia fast answered the early goal with a goal of their own, showing that they came to play. It made for a fantastic online football game as Russia equalized, given an intercepted clearance by the English goalie that saw him way off his line and the resulting shot extremely out of reach. However, the joy didn’t last long for the Russian team as the English scored a near identical goal at the other end. The game went England’s way as they scored more goals and, while the Russian team had the heart, they just seemed unable to make any real come back throughout the rest of the game. In the end, after a grueling game, the final whistle blew, and for the first time, England became the World Cup Winners for the Football Superstars MMO fantasy football games. CyberSports Community Manager Andrew Ruddick expressed his thoughts on the tournament, declaring it the largest event ever hosted by Football Superstars. He acknowledged every single team who took part, saying the level of organization and dedication throughout was amazing, making for some incredibly competitive games. He proceeded to thank every team and person involved in the great event, and gave a unique congratulation to the winning English team who played well throughout. There should be extra World Cup tournaments held for the rest of the year.
