Hindsight and Retrospect December 15, 2008
A prominent Pennsylvania casino made what could be one of the biggest (and most expensive) clerical errors in the recent history of the gaming and poker industry. The casino sent out an advertisement offering free food and gambling to 55,000 of its customers on November 28th. The catch was, the casino only intended to send it to less than 1000 of it’s most active high-rollers, not nearly 55 times that.
The prize package included a free pass to the “Epic Buffet,” and several coupons for free poker chips to be used on slot machine play. Immediately after realizing this mistake they issued a press release apologizing profusely for the mis-advertisement. They did, however, offer some consoling to the customers.
In an effort to correct the wrong, they are offering to honor up to 100 dollars of the coupons sent out to the consumers and are also offering two complimentary passes to the buffet for each customer.
But you have to wonder how this will work out. If a huge turnout does in fact occur as a result of this, how much money could the casino make, as we all know how easy it is to spend 100 dollars in poker in about 20 minutes in a casino if you’re not paying attention. We also know how alluring it can be to keep going when you get there. Perhaps this blunder will turn out to be a lucrative move once it all flushes out.
